Norman and Me

If you’re anywhere near Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, November 23, you might want to attend “Norman and Me,” a “swapping of stories” between Jeffrey Michelson and Stephen Mailer. Michelson was Norman Mailer’s “chauffeur, shopper, and sparring partner” during the summer of 1967 in Provincetown, and subsequently the two became decades-long friends.

The Jewish Community Center of Allentown’s fall program describes the event:

Jeffrey Michelson was Norman Mailer’s houseboy and his sparring partner. Then they became friends. They had falling outs and falling back ins. They went sailing. They went rock climbing. They watched football together. They talked about women and love and sex and politics and literature and movies and TV. They were buddies.

Join us as Lehigh Valley resident Jeffrey Michelson talks about his friend Norman Mailer. Expect surprises. This is Adult Programming in both meanings of Adult. Not advisable for prudes.

”Norman and Me” starts at 10 a.m. at the JCC, 702 N. 22nd St. Tickets, which include a light brunch, are $15; $10, members. Pre-registration is required. Call 610-435-3571 ext. 137.
