Norman Mailer’s first film, shot and edited in the months leading up to the publication of The Naked and the Dead, is having its world premiere at this years New York Film Festival as part of their acclaimed “Views From the Avant Garde” program. Restored and preserved by the Harry Ransom Center, The University of Texas at Austin and the Harvard Film Archive with funding from the National Film Preservation Foundation, this short experimental film, believed to have been lost, stars stage actress Millicent Brower. Rediscovered in 2008 by Mailer film archivist Michael Chaiken, the film adds a significant new dimension in Mailer’s second career as a film director. See the web site or more information on the screening and the “Views From the Avant Garde” program.
