Conference 2010: Call for Submissions

The Norman Mailer Society Eighth International Conference
Call for Paper Proposals and Writing Workshops
November 4-6, 2010
Sarasota, Florida

The Program Committee seeks proposals for panel presentations as well as writing workshop leaders and attendees during the Eighth Annual International Conference of The Norman Mailer Society, to be held in Sarasota, FL. “Mailer and Hemingway” is the theme of the conference and papers on any topic related to Norman Mailer and/or Ernest Hemingway will be considered.

The Program Committee also invites established writers to propose Writing Workshops. In registering for the conference, all attendees will have the opportunity to work with these established writers in workshop settings. Our hope is to further Norman Mailer’s commitment to both scholarly and creative writers.
If you are interested in submitting a presentation paper or a workshop proposal, please contact either Deborah Martinson or Phillip Sipiora.
Guidelines for submission: Send a 50-word biographical statement and a 150-200 word abstract of the proposed presentation and/or workshop as MS Word attachments by July 1 to:
Deborah Martinson – dmartin@oxy.edu
or
Phillip Sipiora – psipiora@gmail.com
The biographical statement and an abstract of presentation or proposed workshop should be suitable for the printed program. Presentation papers, when delivered, must be no longer than 15 minutes. The titles of all papers will be printed in the Conference Program. If proposing a workshop, the abstract must include any participant requirements (such as partial manuscript, initial ideas, or just willingness to experiment.)
Travel Grants of $100, sponsored by The Norman Mailer Society, are available to student presenters.
The conference will be held at the University of South Florida Sarasota campus. Lodging will be at the Hilton Gardens (rooms are reserved at $87/night and include a cooked-to-order breakfast). The hotel is within walking distance to the campus. The Sarasota International Airport is across the street from the campus and is serviced by fourteen airlines, including Delta, Northwest, US Airways, Jet Blue, and Air Tran.
