Actress Beverly Bentley Dies in Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN — Beverly Bentley, the fourth wife of Norman Mailer and a well-known actress and theater director, died Friday in Provincetown, according to Mailer’s authorized biographer, J. Michael Lennon.

Bentley was the mother of actor Stephen Mailer and film producer Michael Mailer.

“She acted for half a century on stage, screen and film,” Lennon said. “She was well-known in New York. She was well-known on Cape Cod.”

Bentley died at a nursing home, Lennon said. But her true home in Provincetown, whether full time or seasonal, was in the East End. She owned a house at 565 Commercial St., near what was known for many years as the Mailer house.
