Norman Mailer Society and Middle Georgia State University Announce Graduate Editorial Assistant Appointment

Macon, GA — January 16, 2025

The Norman Mailer Society and Middle Georgia State University jointly announce the appointment of Josie Hadaway as Graduate Editorial Assistant for The Mailer Review. The appointment will run through the Spring 2026 semester.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing Digital Humanities scholarship, literary studies, and participatory academic culture through applied editorial and publishing experience. The position supports the ongoing digital transformation of The Mailer Review while providing graduate-level professional training in scholarly communication, editing, and digital publication.

Josie Hadaway is a graduate assistant at Middle Georgia State University. She earned a Master of Arts in Technical and Professional Writing from MGA in 2025 and is currently pursuing Graduate Certificates in Creative Writing and Teaching College Writing. Her academic preparation and professional interests align closely with the mission of The Mailer Review as it expands its digital and collaborative initiatives.

In fact, Hadaway became familiar with Norman Mailer’s work through her participation in Dr. Gerald R. Lucas’ graduate course last spring. Reflecting on that experience, Hadaway explains:

“I became familiar with Norman Mailer and his work through Dr. Lucas’ graduate course, Writing and Publishing for Digital Environments. As part of this course, I worked as an assistant digital editor for Project Mailer, remediating articles from The Mailer Review for the online platform. Through my work with Project Mailer, I learned more about Norman Mailer and how scholars are working to preserve his legacy.”

Donna Balding, Dean of the Graduate School at Middle Georgia State University, emphasized the importance of the appointment within MGA’s broader educational mission: “Josie . . . is pursuing a valuable professional experience at The Mailer Review, aligned with her academic aspirations. Opportunities like this one represent the applied learning experience that we seek to promote and encourage for our graduate students at MGA.”

The Norman Mailer Society is very pleased to welcome Hadaway to the editorial team during this period of growth and transition for the journal.

The Society extends its sincere thanks to Middle Georgia State University, the Graduate School, the English Department, and especially the graduate program in Professional and Technical Writing for their continued support of this collaboration.
