Dear Members and Friends of the Norman Mailer Society,

I hope this letter finds you well. As we look back on our extraordinary 2025 conference at Wilkes University, I am filled with gratitude. The gathering was one of our most memorable yet — not only for its rich panels and lively discussions, but for the historic dedication of the Norman Mailer Archives at Wilkes. Touring the Mailer Room with Mike Lennon (where I once toiled away at research for A Double Life) was a surreal reminder of the enduring relevance of Mailer’s work and of the importance of preserving his legacy for future generations. Much like past conferences, the 2025 meeting highlighted decades of scholarship, archival work, and passion, and reaffirmed the vibrancy of our shared mission.

We are also pleased to share that The Mailer Review continues to thrive, with new volumes in development for 2026. Our digital platforms expand outward — a universe of information and updates offering members easier access to news, conference updates, and online membership renewal. These efforts ensure that the Society remains a central resource for anyone seeking to study, teach, or simply enjoy Mailer’s work.

Planning is already underway for the 23rd Annual Norman Mailer Society Conference, to be held in November 2026, at St. Pete Beach, Florida. Details have been announced online, and I know the conference committee is hard at work crafting panels and opportunities to talk Mailer. I hope you will join us.

As we continue this important work, your renewed support is vital to our essential initiatives: The Mailer Review, Project Mailer, the Norman Mailer Archives, and programs that uplift emerging scholars. Whether attending our events, sharing the Society with others, or renewing your membership, you help ensure that Mailer’s writing continues to inspire and provoke new generations of readers and thinkers. To paraphrase Norman, here is a chance to help others grow, and therefore avoid paying more for “remaining the same.”

Please use the enclosed envelope to send your contribution. Visit normanmailersociety.org to renew your membership. Your commitment strengthens our community and safeguards the legacy of one of America’s most influential — and most challenging — writers.

Thank you for your continued dedication to the Norman Mailer Society. Together, we honor Mailer’s legacy and deepen our collective understanding of his work.

To the blessing of work ahead,

Matthew Hinton
President, The Norman Mailer Society
