The Sipiora Years, Online

All fifteen volumes of The Mailer Review edited by Phillip Sipiora, 2007–2021, are now online for the first time.

For the first time, every volume of The Mailer Review from Phillip Sipiora’s tenure as founding editor is available online. All fifteen volumes, from the first issue in 2007 through Volume 15 in 2021, are now on the journal’s site at mailerreview.org.

That is 732 pieces by nearly three hundred contributors: essays and interviews, unpublished Mailer stories transcribed from the Ransom Center manuscripts, reviews, tributes, poems and fiction, and the annual Mailer bibliography. Each one appears as it was printed, as a PDF from the original volume, and most carry an abstract, keywords, and the author’s contributor note, so the whole run can now be searched, browsed, and cited article by article. Every back volume is free to read.

Phil founded the Review in 2006 with the Society’s backing and edited it for fifteen years. These volumes are his work as much as their contributors’, and they record what Mailer studies became in the years after Mailer’s death: Mike Lennon’s biography and the Selected Letters, the opening of the archive, the Library of America volumes, and a steady stream of new readers.

The first eight volumes went up earlier this year, entered article by article by my stellar graduate assistant, Josie Hadaway, whose careful work set the standard for the rest; the remaining seven followed this month. The Review’s old pages on Project Mailer, where volunteers once remediated the print journal by hand, now point to their articles on the new site.

The next volume is a tribute to Phil himself. Volume 16, Special Edition: 20 Years of the Review, a festschrift for Phillip Sipiora, will be published on November 4, 2026, the opening day of this year’s conference. Society members receive it, and the EPUB edition, as part of their membership. See what’s in it →

Print copies of every back volume are still available, singly or as a complete set, from the back volumes page.
