Society Update
Greetings, members of the Norman Mailer Society!
I hope this finds you all doing well. I just wanted to touch base with a few announcements, to keep everyone apprised of what's been going on behind the scenes since our April conference and our recent election of new society officers, who will officially assume their roles in January 2024.
Firstly, I know many of you have been waiting for the long-delayed issue of The Mailer Review, and I assure you that the volume will still be published! Phil Sipiora, editor of the journal, has indicated that the manuscript should be back from the typesetters by November 1, and then will be sent to the printers, after which it can finally be mailed out. Thank you once again for your patience as we navigated some unprecedented issues while working to get this issue to you.
Secondly, we have a limited number of copies of Reflections: Norman Mailer at 100 available for purchase. Copies of the book, which features original reflections by Mailer's family, friends, colleagues, and scholars, are available for $25 each plus shipping. If you are interested in buying a copy, please respond to this email with 1) your mailing address and 2) the number of copies you'd like to purchase.
Thirdly, as you might have heard, the new Norman Mailer documentary, entitled How to Come Alive with Norman Mailer, will be released in November. More information and tickets for the in-person screening on November 10th as well as streaming options are available.
Finally, looking further ahead: the next Norman Mailer Society Conference is slated for November 2024 in Sarasota, FL. We are currently finalizing official dates and details with the hotel, but more information is coming soon - stay tuned!
Thank you as always for your support of the Mailer Society—it’s been a busy and exciting year!
All my best,
Maggie McKinley
